During the pre-flop phase of the game, players make their bets, and then place their cards face-down in front of the dealer. The remaining players then make their decisions about whether or not to call, check, or fold. This phase of poker play is called the pre-flop phase, and ends once all players have called, checked, or folded. In the post-flop phase, players raise their bets as necessary. If a player makes the wrong decision, he or she may lose the entire hand, but this will be the last time they participate in a poker game.
In each round of poker, there is a dealer who shuffles the deck and deals cards to players. The dealer can be a player or a non-player, and this person can have a designated role for the entire game. The dealer usually takes turns, and is designated by a chip placed on the dealer’s table. After each round, the dealer’s chip is passed on to the next player. Depending on the location of the dealer, certain betting rules may apply.
During the betting rounds, players are dealt with seven cards. The best hand is the one that has the highest value. The highest-ranking hand in a poker game wins the pot. If there are multiple players involved, the betting may continue for many rounds. Once the betting phase ends, the game is over and players reveal their cards face-up. Once all the players have their cards revealed, the “showdown” takes place. This is where the best hand is rewarded.
